GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro women's basketball team is taking a much-needed break from the state of South Carolina to return home for a Tuesday night battle against the College of Charleston.
 
This will be UNCG's first home game in 16 days. UNCG will look to remain perfect in the friendly confines of Fleming Gym this season as it starts the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) portion of its schedule.
 
Three of UNCG's next five games in December are against the College of Charleston, Elon, and UNCW. Ironically, all the contests are at home.
 
A Look At UNC Greensboro
  • Nasia Powell and Amber Redmond made their first starts of the 2021-22 season Saturday at USC-Upstate.
  • This is the Spartans' third night game of the season. Six of their previous contests have tipped off at 2 p.m. or earlier. UNCG has had two 11 a.m. starts this season.
  • UNCG dropped a 57-46 road decision to USC-Upstate on Saturday despite 12 points from Isys Grady and 10 points from Khalis Cain.
  • Cain (52.7 percent) and Grady (51.3) are first and second, respectively in the Southern Conference in field goal percentage.
  • Grady has scored in double figures in seven straight games and leads the Spartans in scoring (13.0 points per game).
  • Cain averages 9.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
  • Aja Boyd (7.5 points per game) and Nia Howard (7.3) have scored in double figures in at least one game this season for UNCG.
  • UNCG leads the Southern Conference in scoring defense (53.1).
  • The Spartans are second in the conference in field goal percentage defense (35.5) and blocked shots (2.1).
  • In its three victories, UNCG has held the opposition below 50 points.
 
A Look at the College of Charleston
  • The Cougars ended a three-game losing streak by beating Charleston Southern, 96-60, last Thursday.
  • In the victory, CofC had five players reach double digits in scoring led by Jenna Annecchiarico, who scored 24 points, handed out eight assists and had five steals.
  • Arynn Eady had another double-double, scoring 18 points, pulling down 13 rebounds, and adding four steals and a block.
  • Also scoring in double digits for Charleston was Tyler Collins (17 points, seven assists), Anika McGarity (15 points, six rebounds), and Grace Abercrombie (11 points).
  • Collins and Eady were named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason team.
  • Charleston has the top recruiting class in the CAA and the 46th best class in the country.
  • Charleston leads the CAA in three-pointers made per game at 8.0 per contest.
  • CofC tops the conference with 24.0 forced turnovers per game and a 9.5 turnover margin.
  • The Cougars have forced at least 16 turnovers in each game this season.
 
Series History
  • UNCG is 25-14 all-time against the College of Charleston.
  • The Spartans have won three straight in the series, including a 69-56 victory during the 2019-20 season in Charleston.
  • This is the Cougars' first visit to Greensboro since Nov. 23, 2013. UNCG won that matchup, 64-56.
