Palmer Adds To Career RBI Total Against Appalachian State

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Makenna Matthijs and Kayleigh Willis had two hits each for the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team during a 9-5 defeat to Appalachian State in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon.
 
The visiting Mountaineers scored five runs over the last two innings to earn their second consecutive victory over UNCG dating back to last season.
 
Jasmine Palmer had a two-run double that lifted the Spartans to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of third inning. The Spartans retook a 5-4 advantage in the fifth inning when Ashley Gontram scored on a wild pitch following a Maycin Brown walk.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Morgan Scott finished with six strikeouts in four innings.
  • This was the 11th time in Scott's career that she's struck out at least six batters.
  • Dating back to last season, Scott has struck out six or more batters in seven consecutive contests.
  • This was Matthijs' 31st career multi-hit game and the second of this season.
  • Palmer has 71 career runs batted in.
  • Appalachian State's Kenzie Longanecker earned the 115-pitch complete-game victory.
