GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's tennis looks to remain undefeated this season, opening SoCon play on the road against Western Carolina this Saturday. The Spartans are coming off a 5-2 victory over Norfolk State to begin the 2021 campaign, while WCU has won two of their past three matches, with that loss coming to SoCon-member Furman in a 7-0 final. Only one of the Catamount's wins on the year have come against a Division I opponent.

MATCHUP HISTORY
• UNCG is 7-1 against the Catamounts over the past nine years, beating WCU in their past two meetings by scores of 5-2
• Western Carolina was the only SoCon team the Spartans were able to face before the season was cut short. UNCG's only loss to the Catamounts since 2012 was a 4-3 final in March of 2018
THE SPARTANS
• UNCG lost the doubles point against Norfolk State but went 5-1 in singles play, to clinch a spring opening win. The Spartans have won their last two season openers
• Freshman Juliana Craft made her collegiate debut against NSU, playing in the No. 6 singles. She nearly kept her opponent without a single game won, finishing the match in straight sets of 6-0 and 6-1
• The Spartans ended the season hot last year, winning three unanswered matches before the campaign was cut short. They are now on a four-match winning streak dated back to last year
THE CATAMOUNTS
• The Catamounts have a winning record on the back half of their starting six, posting a 12-9 record in singles play in the No. 4-6 seeds
• WCU is 3-0 when winning the doubles point, however two of those wins came against Division II opponent Lenoir-Rhyne
