Men's Tennis On The Search For Second Straight Road Win At Samford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG men's tennis looks to build off a pair of impressive performances from last week. The Spartans delivered a road win over Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, and came within a point of their first SoCon victory of the season last weekend at home against Wofford.

Who: Samford
Where: Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavillion | Birmingham, Ala.
When: Saturday, March 20 | 2 p.m.

HOW'S THEIR FORM?
-- UNCG is coming off two impressive performances from the past week. The Spartans clinched a 4-3 decision against Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, and fell just short in another 4-3 decision against Wofford on Saturday
-- Samford is already prepping for its 14th match of the season, having most recently beaten The Citadel 6-0 this past Wednesday. The Bulldogs' matchup with The Citadel was their first and only SoCon matchup so far this spring, as they stand an undefeated 1-0 in conference play

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
-- Alexander Zuckerman leads all Spartans with four singles wins in 2021. He is currently on a two-match win streak after clinching three-set decisions against Gardner-Webb's No. 4 and Wofford's No. 5
-- Freshman Christopher Johns combined with senior Nico Grewe in doubles play for the first time this year while playing GWU. Johns has been on the winning side in each of his past two doubles matches, earning victories against the Runnin' Bulldogs' second pairing and Wofford's No. 3
-- The Spartans collected all four of their points against GWU in singles play. They are 7-5 in individual matches over their past two contests

SCOUTING SAMFORD
-- Senior Tomas Santantonio has a Samford-best 9-2 record in singles play on the season. He has played all across the Bulldogs' lineup, going 2-0 at the No. 6, 5-0 at the No. 5, 1-2 at the No. 4 and 1-0 at the No. 3. He is currently on a seven-match win streak
-- The combination of Victor Chaw and Jim Hendrix has been undefeated over eight doubles matches this season. Seven of those wins have come against opponents' top pairings

SERIES HISTORY
-- The Bulldogs have claimed eight of their last 10 meetings with UNCG, however the Spartans were victorious in the pair's last meeting in 2019, 4-3
-- UNCG has come out on top in two of their last four matchups with Samford with Hugh Knapp clinching the match-deciding victory on court one back in 2019
