GREENSBORO – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team dropped the series finale to ETSU, 7-2, in a Southern Conference contest Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
The Spartans still captured the weekend series despite seeing their three-game winning streak end.
Maycin Brown's two-out RBI double in the seventh inning highlighted UNCG's offensive attack.
Ashley Gontram and
Melanie Darges scored for UNCG.
Makenna Matthijs had a hit for the eighth time in UNCG's last nine games.
Jasmine Palmer has a hit in seven of her last eight games after singling in the fifth innings.
Samantha Lagrama had two of the Spartan four walks on the afternoon.
Alina Varga allowed two unearned runs in relief.
ETSU scored six runs in the top of the first inning, which was more than enough for SoCon Pitcher of the Week Kelly Schmidt, who tossed her seventh complete game of the season. UNCG had its first two runners on base in the second and third innings and Schmidt was able to pitch out of trouble.
Julia Fritz and Andrea Sarhatt had two hits each to lead ETSU.
UNCG returns to action next Friday when it continues SoCon competition on the road against Furman with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
