GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG men's tennis honored the careers of three Spartan seniors this Saturday with Nico Grewe, Ollie Palmer and Eric Whisnant all competing in their final home contest of the 2021 spring. The home team was unable to close out the regular season on a win however, as visiting Chattanooga grabbed the 5-2 victory to finish off the current campaign.

The Spartans dropped the doubles point on Saturday, but did get a win on court three from Cooper Wyett and Roger Rogowski. The pair dispatched Chattanooga's second flight by a score of 6-2 for their fifth straight victory as a pairing. They finish the 2021 season with a team-best seven wins in doubles.

The Mocs doubled their advantage on court six, before Nico Grewe gave the Spartans their first point of the day. The senior put away UTC's No. 2 in straight sets, taking the opening frame 7-5 before clinching the decision with a 6-1 win in the second. Grewe closes the spring with a Spartan-high eight individual wins, going 5-0 when playing in the second seed. He is one of only three players in the Southern Conference that finishes the regular season unbeaten while playing in the second flight, and is the only player in the SoCon to do so while playing multiple matches at that seed.

Roger Rogowski completed an undefeated Saturday with a win in singles play. Rogowski defeated UTC's No. 5 in straight sets, winning by scores of 6-4 and 7-5. 

That point would be the last for the Spartans however as the Mocs claimed wins on courts one and three to take home the 5-2 win.

All three Spartan seniors honored this weekend were named ITA Scholar-Athletes this past summer while receiving 2019-20 SoCon Honor Roll selections, with Whisnant getting added to the conference's list of Commissioner's Medal recipients. Grewe, Palmer and Whisnant all contributed to a Spartan squad that turned in a 3.58 GPA this past fall, while helping their team to 26 match wins since the 2017-18 season.
