BOONE, N.C. – Hannah Kincer had a pair of hits, including a RBI single in the seventh inning, during UNC Greensboro's 4-3 setback to Appalachian State in a non-conference softball contest Wednesday afternoon.
Delaney Cumbie doubled and scored with two outs in the seventh inning off of Kincer's hit.
The Spartans grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when
Jordan Gontram delivered a two-out, two-run single that scored
Jasmine Palmer and
Melanie Darges. The Spartans clustered three of their six hits together in the fourth inning.
Samantha Lagrama and Palmer had one-out singles to set the stage for Gontram.
In extending her hitting streak to six games, Palmer has reached base safely at least once in 15 consecutive contests.
UNCG starting pitcher
Morgan Scott finished with five strikeouts.
Taylor Thorp's two-run single in the fourth inning capped a three-run inning and gave Appalachian State the lead for good. Mountaineer pitcher Kenzie Longanecker tossed 3.2 innings in relief to earn the victory.
UNCG returns to action when it begins a three-game non-conference series against Longwood starting Friday at 6 p.m. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
