Patterson's Contract Extended

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) Director of Athletics Kim Record and head women's basketball coach Trina Patterson have agreed to a three-year contract extension through the 2023-24 season. Financial terms were not released.

"Trina has done a terrific job of leading our women's basketball program on and off the court," Record said. "Under her leadership, she has graduated student-athletes, competed for championships, and supported her student-athletes' commitment to inspiring change in the world.  This extension is a commitment to  future seasons of success."

Patterson just finished her fifth year at the helm of the Spartans. During her time in Greensboro, UNCG has twice won at least 20 games including a 23 win season in 19-20 which was the third best Division I turn around nationally that year in women's basketball  She is also a two-time SoCon Coach of the Year.

Patterson led UNCG to its first regular season conference title in 2019-20, the program's first since 2002. UNCG also advanced to the conference tournament championship.  The Spartans went 23-9 with a 10-4 conference record, the most overall wins the team has had since 2002.

"It's been a privilege to represent UNCG," Patterson said. "I am thrilled for the support and trust in me to lead this program from Kim Record and Chancellor Gilliam. I look forward to putting our program in a position to consistently win championships."

Earlier this year, Patterson was named to the Black Coaches Watch List, assembled by Advancement of Blacks in Sports (ABIS). The list consists of 30 rising assistant coaches in men's and women's basketball and 30 mid-major head coaches who are deserving and prepared to take the next step in their careers.
