Phillips Added To Men's Basketball Staff

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- UNC Greensboro (UNCG) head men's basketball coach Mike Jones has announced the addition of Randy Phillips to his 2021-22 staff.
 
A Jackson, Mississippi native, Phillips will serve as the Spartans' program manager. Among some of his duties will be to oversee all managers and graduate assistants. He will be in charge of all basketball facilities (locker room and lounge), practice preparation, and all food/snack related matters. In addition, he will assist the Director of Basketball Operations and the Director or Recruiting. 
 
"I'm extremely proud to have Randy on our staff and look forward to him starting a long, impactful career in this coaching profession," Jones said.  "Pop,' as we call him, was a key contributor on our championship team in 2018 and provided outstanding leadership throughout his time in Radford.  His relentless effort and work ethic on the court, will translate to productivity and relationship building off the court as a coach.  I'm excited to see his contributions to our program."
 
Since graduating from Radford in 2018, Phillips has played professionally in Canada, France, and Switzerland. He most recently played for JSA Bordeaux in France. He averaged 11.4 points per game while playing for the London Lightning. His time with the London Lightning featured a 32-point performance against the Sudbury Five. He also scored 28 points twice.
 
As a senior at Radford, Phillips played in 36 games and made 34 starts. He set career highs in minutes played per game (22.8), points per game (6.8), rebounds per game (5.6), blocks (35), assists (26), steals (17), shooting percentage (.544), and free throw percentage (.608). Phillips led the Big South with 2.9 offensive rebounds per game.
 
During his junior year, he was one of two Highlanders to start all 32 games. Phillips was second on the team with 4.9 rebounds per game. He was second on team with 84 offensive rebounds and ranked third in Big South with 2.6 per contest. Phillips scored in double figures five times, including a season-high 12 points against Georgia Southern. He also posted two double-doubles while equaling a season-high of 12 rebounds against Gardner-Webb and High Point.

Phillips also averaged 8.4 points and 6.5 rebounds for East Central Community College. During his time at East Central Community College, he received the Anthony Johnson Basketball Award for high character and work ethic. He was rated No. 36 in state of Mississippi by MaxPreps coming out Lanier HS.
