UNCG Finishes Strong In Second Round Of Old Town

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team finished the first two rounds of the Old Town Collegiate Monday.
 
The Spartans finished strong, soaring into the final round with the momentum gained from a solid second round. Zach Swanson and Nick Lyerly were UNCG's top two individual performers as one stroke separates both players.

How It Happened Round One
  • Nick Lyerly and Noah Connor paced the Spartans with one-over 71's.
  • Lyerly's effort was highlighted by birdies on the fourth and ninth holes.
  • That helped Lyerly shoot a one-under 34 on the front nine.
  • A highlight for Connor included a eagle on the par-5 526-yard fourth hole.
  • Tommy Lamb also had three birdies during his round in which he shot a three-over 73.
  • Zack Swanson finished with one birdie during his five-over 75.
  • The Spartans shot 290.
 
How It Happened Round Two
  • The Spartans rebounded with a 275.
  • Two players enjoyed under par rounds.
  • Swanson was UNCG's leader with a five-under 65.
  • Swanson had four birdies and an eagle, also on the par-5, 526-yard fourth hole.
  • Swanson carded a four-under 31 on the front nine highlighted by three consecutive holes where birdies on the third and fifth holes were sandwiched by the eagle on the fourth.
  • This was not Swanson's best collegiate round. He fired an eight-under 64 two years ago.
  • Playing in his first event of the 2021-22 campaign, Symon Balbin bounced back from a tough first round to card a one-under 69.
  • He had four birdies including on consecutive holes (14 and 15).
  • Lyerly was consistent as he finished with an even par 70.
  • Lyerly had three birdies, which gave him five for the day.
  • Connor finished with four birdies, which helped him shoot a one-over 71.
  • Connor was one-under 34 on the back nine.
  • Lamb had four birdies, which was the centerpiece of his four-over 74 round.
 
Leaderboard
  • UNCG is 14th overall with a two-round score of 565.
  • Swanson and Lyerly are among the top 50.
