Women’s Basketball Welcomes Radford for Midweek Battle

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team returns home to Fleming Gymnasium for a special 11 a.m. contest Wednesday, November 16 against the Radford Highlanders in an Education Day contest.

SEASON LOOK AHEAD
  • UNCG will have two Power-5 opponents this season, both against members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
  • The Spartans will play the Kentucky Wildcats on December 4th for a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. in Lexington.
  • Later in the month, they will head down south to Florida for another matinee against the Florida Gators with a start time at 2 p.m. on December 18th.
  • Four of seven games in November will be inside of Fleming Gym.
  • The Spartans will open SoCon play with a trip to the reigning conference champions, Mercer Bears on January 5 at 7 p.m.

  • The Spartans dropped a Saturday afternoon road contest to Gardner-Webb, 83-66.
  • Nasia Powell posted a career-high 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting.
  • Kennedy Simpson was the remaining Spartan in double-figure scoring with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
  • Khalis Cain added defensive pressure in the post with six rebounds and three blocks to go along with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.
  • UNCG shot 8-of-16 from the field in the first quarter, but 17-of-40 throughout the remainder of the contest.
  • Nitzan Amar came off the bench to post six points, four rebounds, and five assists.
  • Gardner-Webb posted six fewer turnovers than the Spartans, 21-15.

  • Powell leads the Spartans with 16 points per game through two games.

  • Antoniette Emma-Nnopu has been a spark off the bench for the Spartans, averaging 9.5 points per game on 7-of-10 shooting with 5.5 rebounds per contest.

  • Ashlyn Traylor was the lone Highlander in double-figures with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
  • Radford shot 34.5 percent for the contest, but shot 64.3 percent for the third quarter.
  • Radford is 1-2 on the season with a season-opening loss to Kentucky where the Highlanders lost by only four points to the Wildcats, 82-78.
  • The Highlanders only victory on the season comes against Division II Emory & Henry, 68-39, on November 10 at home.
  • Radford finished 2021-22 with a 7-23 record overall, and 3-15 in Big South play.
  • The Highlanders are picked to finish fourth in the Big South Conference this season.
