UNCG Shows Promise In Setback To Davidson

Box Score DAVIDSON, N.C. – Even though the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team dropped its season-opener, 7-0, to Davidson, there were several encouraging efforts.

This was UNCG's first match of 2022 after having its previous two either postponed or canceled.

Erika Barquero and Ariana Chan was a winner at No. 1 doubles to lead UNCG.

Chan and Eugenia Camacho battled hard before falling in three sets at No. 2 singles and No. 4 singles, respectively. They each won the second set to force the decisive third set. Camacho fell 6-4 in the third set.

The No. 2 doubles tandem of Juliana Craft and McCollough Perry played a hard-fought match that ended with them surrendering a tough 7-5 decision.

It was the last of three doubles matches to be completed. Craft and Perry continued to showcase grit even though Davidson had already claimed the doubles point.

The Spartans made Davidson earn each singles victory. Erika Barquero dropped a 7-5 decision in the first set at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 singles, Craft extended her opponent before coming up short, 7-5, in the second set.

The match was also featured the collegiate debuts of Perry, Hannah Mitchell, and Olivia Gallagher. Mitchell and Gallagher played hard during a 6-3 setback at No. 3 doubles.

UNCG returns to action Wednesday when it hosts North Carolina Central at 2 p.m.
