No. 5 Spartans Set for No. 4 Bulldogs

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team is set to head Asheville, N.C. for the 2022 Southern Conference Tournament where they will go head-to-head with the No. 4 seed Samford Bulldogs. The teams will face off tomorrow afternoon at 1:15 p.m. in the Harrah's Cherokee Center.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
-- Aja Boyd and Isys Grady earned Southern Conference postseason honors. Boyd was named to the All-SoCon Media and Coaches Second Team. Grady earned a spot on the All-Freshman Media and Coaches Team.
--Boyd was also named the Ann Lashley Inspiration Award Winner for her comeback to the court after missing 624 days due to injury.
--The Spartans are led by Grady who has scored 260 points on the season. She has started in all of UNCG's games except one.
--Khalis Cain has a total of 34 blocks this season. This is her second consecutive season with 30+ blocks.
--Cain goes into the tournament with 189 blocks, leading the Spartans with 88 offensive blocks.
--Pernilla Sorensen has made 32 three-pointers this season. She has made at least one three-pointer in 12 of the last 14 games.
--Anna Terron scored a career-high six points in the Spartan's 67-39 win over Western Carolina.
--She knocked down her first three-pointer with three seconds left in the game.

SCOUTING SAMFORD
-- Andrea Cournoyer leads the Bulldogs with 464 points this season. She is second in the conference with an average of 16.6 points per game.
--She leads the conference in steals with 73, an average of 2.6 per game.
--Annie Ramil is third in the conference in rebounds with 7.8 per game.
--She is the only Bulldog to have over 200 rebounds this season.
--As a team, the Bulldogs lead the conference in field-goal percentage with .418 and assists with 13.8.

TOURNAMENT SERIES HISTORY
--Samford leads the tournament series 2-0.
--The last time the Spartans and Bulldogs met in the tournament was in the 2020 championship game.
--The No. 1 Bulldogs won the game with a three-pointer and layup with under 20 seconds to go.
