Spartans Return Home To Meet UNCW

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team returns home to host in-state foe UNCW Sunday in a noon showdown.
 
A Look At UNCG
  • This is UNCG's second home match in the month of March.
  • The Spartans are coming into this match after defeating Mercer, 4-3, last Saturday.
  • Juliana Craft, Olivia Gallagher, and Erika Barquero were winners in singles matches last week against Mercer.
  • Barquero and Gallagher have combined for nine singles victories for UNCG.
  • The No. 1 doubles tandem of Barquero and Ariana Chan have won three straight matches.
  • Barquero and Chan has six victories as a pair.
  • The No. 3 doubles squad of Gallagher and McCullough Perry were winners last week against Mercer.
  • The win over Mercer was UNCG first-year head coach Paul Thomson first in charge of the Spartans.
 
A Look At UNCW
  • Prior to its match at Elon on Saturday, UNCW has won four of its last five matches.
  • UNCW starts this two-match road trip to Elon and UNCG with a 9-3 overall record.
  • Sasha Belaya was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
  • UNCW defeated Towson, 6-1, in its last match on Sunday, March 19.
  • The Seahawks got singles victories from Belaya, Zoe Huffman, Lauren Gish, Anna Daniels, and Sarah Merrill.
  • UNCW swept all three doubles matches against Towson.
  • Gish and Huffman lead UNCW with seven singles victories.
  • Brinley Bell and Belaya have won six singles matches.
  • Merrill has won all three of her singles decisions this season.

Thomson on Sunday's match and how much the win over Mercer last week helped the team.
"Another tough non-conference match. Win versus Mercer was good for the team but they can't rest on one win. Pretty good week of practice after a couple of days off. Now it's back to work."
