Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Erika Barquero sparkled for the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team during a 5-2 setback to Western Carolina Saturday afternoon.
Barquero led the Spartans in their SoCon opener by winning her doubles match with
Ariana Chan and her singles match. It was a beautiful bounce back for Barquero, who battled Thursday against Radford while not feeling her best.
Barquero and Chan were 7-5 winners at No. 1 doubles. Barquero was a straight sets winner at No.1 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Also winning for UNCG was
Hannah Mitchell at No. 5 singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Juliana Craft forced a third set tiebreak after winning the second set, 6-4. She battled in the match before falling short in a thriller. Chan dropped a close match especially in the first set, 7-6. Despite the final result and the adversity, the Spartans are enduring currently, they believe things will improve.
"Tough time for the ladies," first-year head coach
Paul Thomson said. "Doing so many good things without the results they are hoping for. They are a tough bunch and have been through a lot as a team recently. I am pleased to be here with them and be able to watch them grow."
UNCG returns to action when it starts a four-game road trip against Stetson on Wednesday, March 9 in a match that begins at 10 a.m.
