Spartans To Play A Pair In Florida Against Stetson and Rollins

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Like many American college students, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team is heading to Florida for spring break.
 
The Spartans will get an opportunity to play the sport they love, bond, and enjoy some time away from the tennis courts. UNCG will play matches against Stetson on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and Rollins on Thursday at 3 p.m.
 
Stetson will be the second nationally ranked opponent the Spartans will face this season. This trip starts the second part of UNCG's tough stretch of playing seven of eight matches on the road.
 
A Look At UNCG
  • UNCG's lone victory this season was a 4-3 triumph over North Carolina Central.
  • The Spartans dropped their SoCon opener to Western Carolina, 5-2, on Saturday.
  • It was UNCG's only home match between a stretch of Feb. 26 and March 27.
  • Barquero led the Spartans in their SoCon opener by winning her doubles match with Ariana Chan and her singles match.
  • Also winning for UNCG against Western Carolina was Hannah Mitchell at No. 5 singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
  • Barquero and Olivia Gallagher leads UNCG with three victories each.
  • The No. 1 doubles team of Barquero and Chan have won four matches.
 
A Look At Stetson
  • Ranked 62nd in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, the Hatters are 10-1.
  • They have won three straight matches.
  • Stetson's only loss this season was a 4-3 decision to South Florida.
  • The Hatters beat the College of Charleston, 5-2, in their previous match.
  • Alanna DiFrancesco leads Stetson with a 10-0 record.
  • Noah Cohen and Cheri Darley are a combined 18-1.
  • Cohen is 9-0.
  • Anais Gabriel is 8-1 for the Hatters.
  • Cohen and Gabriel are Stetson's top doubles pairing and they have won five straight matches.
 
A Look At Rollins
  • Rollins is 5-4 overall and has won five straight matches.
  • Three of its five victories have been by 7-0 scores, including the last two matches.
  • Rollins beat Davenport, 7-0.
  • Erin Yaroshuk, Kaitlynn Groves, Alexandra Borg, Polina Vlasova and Georgina Groth, and Natalia Collado Cordon were singles winners for the Tars.
  • Rollins plays a match on Wednesday, March 9 against the University of Texas-Tyler.
  • Borg and Groth were ranked as the No. 19 doubles team in the nation by the ITA in the preseason.
  • Rollins is a Division II member of the Sunshine State Conference.
  • Rollins has lost to the Division II No. 1 ranked program Barry and to Division I opponents Stetson, Army West Point, and Liberty.
