CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – There will be brighter tomorrows for the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis program despite a season-ending 4-0 setback to 74th-ranked ETSU in a Southern Conference quarterfinal contest at the Champions Club Thursday afternoon.
UNCG competed with a resilient spirit and pride in its stride throughout the season. The inspirational efforts of the Spartans made everybody associated with the program proud. UNCG never quit during any match and always gave it best each time the players took the court.
Those time-honored elements will be critical assets for the Spartans as they prepare for 2023.
They will be better moving forward.
As UNCG graduate senior Eugenia Camacho left the court for the final time, she could smile, knowing the best is yet to come for the Spartans.
UNCG returns a strong nucleus for next season in freshmen Raegan Mitchell, Olivia Gallagher, McCollough Perry, and sophomore Juliana Craft. They showcased flashes of brilliance during plenty of encouraging team efforts and gained valuable experience. The pieces are in place to enjoy a strong 2023.
Gallagher led UNCG in victories with five this season. She had bright moments during the season and contributed heavily to the Spartans' 4-3 win over North Carolina Central. Gallagher won at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles during that victory. She also won consecutive singles matches against Mercer and UNCW.
Craft teamed with Perry to win a doubles match against North Carolina Central. Craft and Mitchell defeated UNCW. Craft finished with three victories, but that doesn't describe her season. She had to adjust and move from No. 3 singles to No. 1 singles, where her game elevated, and she was competitive at the top slot.
