Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Season at No. 19 NC State

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team kicks off the 2023 spring season with a double header against No. 19 NC State on Saturday, January 14.
 
The first match will start at noon with the second match beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the J.W. Isenhour Center.
 
About the Spartans
  • Saturday will be the Spartans' opening weekend for the spring season.
  • The Spartans' next three matches will be at home. They will first host Longwood on Friday, January 20 at 1:30 p.m. Then they take a break before hosting Radford on Tuesday, February 7 at noon, followed by Presbyterian on Friday, February 17 at 1 p.m.
  • At the Wake Forest Invitational at the end of October, Jay Montague and Wyatt Cannon each had two singles victories, while Andrew Black and Tymofiy Khrystyuk each had one singles win each.
  • On the first day of the Spartan Fall Invitational in early October, UNCG had seven singles victories when the team played individuals from NCCU (Moskowitz, Gabelic, Khrystyuk, Cannon, Gwynn, Black, and Montague).
  • The Spartans also saw all four doubles pairings earn a win. (Gabelic/Flisberg, Moskowitz, Khrystyuk, Gwynn/Black, and Cannon/Montague).
  • Khrystyuk and Cannon each had a singles win against Elon competitors at the Spartan Fall Invitational, while three UNCG doubles pairings picked up a win on the second day (Gabelic/Flisberg, Moskowitz/Khrystyuk, and Cannon/Montague).
 
About NC State
  • The Wolfpack came in at No. 19 in the ITA Preseason polls.
  • At the conclusion of the fall, NC State had one individual and one doubles pairs in the final ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
  • Rafa Izquierdo Luque saw his name on both lists. Izquierdo Luque finished No. 21 in the final doubles rankings with Joseph Wayand.
  • Martins Rocens and Fons Van Sambeek finished No. 38 in the final ITA rankings.
