Women’s Tennis Begins New Year at Clemson Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team kicks off the 2023 spring season with a single match against Clemson on Saturday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Center.
 
About the Spartans
  • Saturday will be the Spartans' opening weekend for the spring season.
  • The Spartans' next two matches will be at home. They will first play Longwood on Friday, January 14 at 1:30 p.m., and follow that up with a match against in-state foe UNC Asheville on Saturday, January 21 at 2:00 p.m.  
  • UNCG began the season at the three-day Elon Invitational where it saw four doubles victories and seven singles wins.
  • The Blue & Gold then hosted its own three-day UNCG Invite, where Olivia Gallagher led the Spartans with two singles victories out of the 7 during the invite.
  • The Spartans totaled five doubles wins during that weekend.

About Clemson
  • Clemson will first host the College of Charleston on Saturday with a start time of noon before hosting the Spartans.
  • The Tigers last competed at the UNF Fall Invite in November, where Eleni Louka came away with a top-50 victory, defeating No. 43 Kit Gulihur of UNF.
  • All three that traveled down to Florida went 2-1.
  • Cristina Mayorova was ranked No. 77 as a singles player in the fall and defeated Tulsa opponent Marla Berlanga at the ITA All-American Championships in the opening round, and then falling in the second round to No. 42 Ayana Akli of South Carolina.
  • Jenna Thompson and Samantha Buyckx defeated No. 19 Quiterio/Maquet of the Charlotte 49ers at the Charlotte Invite.
  • The Tigers also competed at the Furman Fall Invite to begin the fall season in September.
