CLEMSON, S.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team took to the courts in Clemson, S.C. this evening versus the Clemson Tigers. The ACC foe came out on top by a score of 7-0. There were however several bright spots.
The duo of
Hanna Giddings and
Olivia Gallagher played a fantastic set of doubles falling 6-4 at the number one spot. "These two are going to be really good together," remarked Head Coach
Paul Thomson.
In singles,
Luna Urso had several chances to take her first set. Even losing 7-6, 6-2 her play was inspiring. It was a match she will be able to build from.
On court one, another newcomer
Arina Babkova, battled back after losing her first set taking the second set 7-5, sending the match to a third-set tiebreaker. In the breaker however, she came up short losing 10-6.
"This was a good starting point," says Coach Thomson. "Clemson will be one of the best teams we see all year. Their effort and enthusiasm was great. We now know what we need to continue to work on."
The Spartans will take Sunday off and get back to work on Monday in preparation for Longwood and UNC Asheville next Friday and Saturday at home.
