GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team hosts Longwood on Friday, January 20 to continue its spring slate. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
About the Spartans
- The Spartans' continue a three-match home stand hosting Radford on Tuesday, February 7 at noon, followed by Presbyterian on Friday, February 17 at 1 p.m.
- At the Wake Forest Invitational at the end of October, Jay Montague and Wyatt Cannon each had two singles victories, while Andrew Black and Tymofiy Khrystyuk each had one singles win each.
- On the first day of the Spartan Fall Invitational in early October, UNCG had seven singles victories when the team played individuals from NCCU (Moskowitz, Gabelic, Khrystyuk, Cannon, Gwynn, Black, and Montague).
- The Spartans also saw all four doubles pairings earn a win. (Gabelic/Flisberg, Moskowitz, Khrystyuk, Gwynn/Black, and Cannon/Montague).
- Khrystyuk and Cannon each had a singles win against Elon competitors at the Spartan Fall Invitational, while three UNCG doubles pairings picked up a win on the second day (Gabelic/Flisberg, Moskowitz/Khrystyuk, and Cannon/Montague).
- The Spartans opened the New Year against No. 19 NC State, falling twice on January 14 in Raleigh, N.C.
About Longwood
- The Lancers kick off the spring semester against the Spartans.
- Longwood competed in three invitationals in the fall: Elon, River City Open, and Big South Individuals.
- Huang and Foster won doubles match during the Big South Individuals against Presbyterian.
- Gary Huang strung together wins against Manfredi Vergine from Radford.
- Yoav Weinberg started the weekend off with a well-fought victory, 6-7, 7-6, 6-1 over David Mamalat from Presbyterian. Weinberg then fell in the next round to Radford's Dimosthenis Taramonlis, who's the top seeded player in the Big South.
- Nikhil Kulkarni defeated Herman Jentoft during the River City Open in straight sets in the opening round, and followed his first victory with a second against Caleb Miller. Kulkarni fell in his final round on Sunday.
- The Lancers went 9-10 overall last season and 1-6 in the Big South.
