GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team opens its home schedule tomorrow with a single match against Longwood.
The Spartans then turn around and host UNC Asheville on Saturday with a start time of 2 p.m.
About the Spartans
- Saturday will be the Spartans' home opening weekend for the spring season.
- UNCG fell to Clemson, 7-0, to start the New Year.
- They then travel to Durham to face North Carolina Central on Thursday, January 26 at 1 p.m.
- UNCG began the fall season at the three-day Elon Invitational where it saw four doubles victories and seven singles wins.
- The Blue & Gold then hosted its own three-day UNCG Invite, where Olivia Gallagher led the Spartans with two singles victories out of the 7 during the invite.
- The Spartans totaled five doubles wins during that weekend.
About Longwood
- This is Longwoods first match of the New Year.
- The Lancers played at Christopher Newport University and competed at the Women's ITA Regionals and the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invitational last semester.
- At Christopher Newport, the Lancers won eight of their nine doubles contests and 21 out of 23 singles matches.
- Last season, Longwood went 8-13 overall and 2-6 in the Big South.
- Doubles pairing of Maria Saez and Wiktoria Czerny defeated a duo from Virginia Tech at ITA Regionals, while Karina Rizanova and Emma Nurgazieva went 1-1 in ITA play.
About UNC Asheville
- The Bulldogs had their opening match against Lees-McRae postponed, so they then face Chattanooga on Sunday, January 15, falling 4-3.
- In their match against the Mocs, the Bulldogs saw Ami Grace Dougah and Elizabeth Tindera had the lone singles wins during the match.
- The Bulldogs also had two of three doubles win that day.
- This will be UNC Asheville's first match away from home.
- The Bulldogs competed at the Elon Fall Invitational, hosted the Emily McNall Classic, and traveled to the Wofford Invitational last fall.
- Last season, the Bulldogs went 13-6 overall and 4-4 in Big South play.
