Khalfani Leads Women's Basketball in Dominant Win Over Pfeiffer

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team dominated the Pfeiffer Falcons in a 93-25 win on Tuesday, afternoon at Fleming Gym during its education day game.
 
This is the second time that UNCG has held a team to 30 or below this season. The last was against South Carolina State, 61-30 on November 11th.  The last time the Spartans scored over 90 points was last season in a 134-29 win over Virginia University of Lynchburg on December 21st, 2022.
 
According to the UNCG women's basketball record book, the 68-point margin of victory is a top-10 in the Spartans' Division I and program history. Also, according to the record book, the 25 points made by Pfeiffer are also in the top 10 for the fewest points allowed in the program and in the Spartans' Division I history.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
It was back-and-forth play to start the first frame with the score tying twice. But UNCG went on a 12-0 run to close out the quarter with a 15-point advantage, 25-10. Khalis Cain scored eight of the Spartans' 25 points in the first quarter.
 
The Spartans continued to outscore the Falcons 25-10 in the second quarter. A final layup from Jayde Gamble at 0:20 gave UNCG a 50-20 lead going into the break.
 
UNCG held Pfeiffer to one point in the third frame at 4:23 with a free throw by the Falcons' Alexis Bynum. The Spartans capitalized on their 66.7 three-point percentage, as well as a 60 field-goal percentage for during the quarter.
 
In the final quarter, UNCG continued to outscore Pfeiffer, 15-4. The Spartans had a 68-point lead over the Falcons' during the frame which included two free throws from Nina Horvath with just 10 seconds left on the clock.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Ayanna Khalfani led both teams in scoring with 21 points for her season-high.
  • Khalis Cain was second on the day with 12.
  • Kelly Boyle recorded eight points for a career-high, went three-for-three in field goals, and went two-for-two in three-pointers.
  • Antoniette Emma-Nnopu posted eight rebounds on the day for a season and game-high.
  • Yacine N'Diaye collected a season-high of four points, and a season-high of three rebounds, and went two-for-two in field goals for a season-high.  
  • Freshman Makiah Asidanya posted two points for a new season high.
  • Nina Horvath recorded six points and went two-for-two in field goals for season highs.
  • UNCG scored 40 points from turnovers to Pfeiffer's two.
  • The Spartans earned 35 points from their bench, while the Falcons only saw 10 from theirs.
