Women's Basketball to Host Coastal Carolina in Midweek Contest

GREENSBORO, NC - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team will host Coastal Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 29 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

  • UNCG most recently claimed a 64-47 victory over Gardner-Webb on Sunday to stay undefeated at home.
  • The Spartans never allowed the Runnin' Bulldogs to lead in the game.
  • Ayanna Khalfani and Jayde Gamble led the Spartans in scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Khalis Cain was three points shy of a double-double after capturing seven points and 10 rebounds.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
  • The Spartans come into Wednesday's matchup 5-2 overall and are undefeated at home.
  • The last time UNCG started off a season 4-0 at home was in 2018-19.
  • The 5-2 start to the season marks one of four times the Spartans have had this great of a beginning in the past 25 years
  • UNCG stands at second place in The Southern Conference (SoCon) over its non-conference slate, trailing Chattanooga by one victory.
  • As a team, the Spartans lead the SoCon in eight different statistical categories including in assist/turnover ratio, field-goal percentage defense, scoring defense, scoring margin, steals per game, three-point percentage defense, turnover margin and turnovers forced per game.
  • Gamble is ranked 10th nationally with 22 steals this season. 
  • Khalfani is third in the conference with two double-doubles this season, while Cain is second in offensive rebounds per game with a 4.0 average.
  • Khalfani leads the Spartans this season with 83 points, 35 field goals and 21 assists.
  • UNCG stands out from behind the arc with four Spartans already posting seven three-pointers.
  • Cain and Antoniette Emma-Nnopu stand out on the defensive end with five blocks apiece.
  • The Spartans were picked to finish sixth in the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, trailing ETSU, Chattanooga, Mercer, Wofford and Furman and coming in front of Samford and Western Carolina.
  • Isys Grady was named the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after her efforts in the 2022-23 season. 
SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS
  • Coastal Carolina heads to Greensboro with a 4-2 overall record, on a four-game winning streak.
  • The Conway, S.C., squad has competed against one other SoCon opponent by claiming a 78-72 victory over Furman earlier this season.
  • The Chanticleers most recently dominated in a 73-59 trip up the road to UNC Wilmington.
  • Graduate student Makaila Cange led the team with 24 points and went 11-for-11 from the floor and 2-for-2 at the free-throw line in the team's matchup to the Seahawks.
  • Cange leads her team in scoring this season with 76 points, producing 30 field goals.
  • Deaja Richardson stands out with range with nine three-pointers.
  • As a team, the Chanticleers are ranked second nationally with 19.8 offensive rebounds per game. In first, is their Sun Belt conference opponent, Georgia Southern.
  • The Chanticleers' national ranking in offensive rebounds, is brought on mostly from Alanica Ramsey, who leads the country with a 6.5 offensive rebounds per game average.
  • Riley Stack leads the Sun Belt in blocks and blocks per game with 13 and 2.17, respectively.
  • Cange leads the conference with a 56.6 field goal percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
The Spartans lead in the overall series against the Chanticleers at 13-9. Coastal Carolina has won the last three games against UNCG. The last time the two teams met was in the 2021-22 season in Conway, S.C., when the Chanticleers claimed a 53-41 victory over the Spartans. Current junior Isys Grady posted her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the team's last meeting, during her freshman season.
