Women’s Basketball Set for Monday Matinee at USC Upstate

GREENSBORO, NC - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team will head to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on USC Upstate on Monday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. in the G.B. Hodge Center.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG
  • The Spartans most recently defeated NC Central, 66-55 on Thursday night in Fleming Gym.

  • UNCG leads the conference in five statistical categories: assist turnover ratio, blocks per game, steals per game, turnover margin and turnovers forced per game.
  • Gamble currently leads the team with an 11.7 points per game average and 129 points on the season.
  • Simpson stands out from behind the arc with 15 three-pointers.
  • Ayanna Khalfani stands out on the squad with 38 dimes.
  • The Spartans were picked to finish sixth in the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, trailing ETSU, Chattanooga, Mercer, Wofford and Furman and coming in front of Samford and Western Carolina.
  • Grady was named the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after her efforts in the 2022-23 season. 
SCOUTING USC UPSTATE
  • USC Upstate comes into Monday's contest 5-6 overall.
  • The Spartans are on a two-game win streak with both wins coming to SoCon opponents.
  • The team defeated Western Carolina in Cullowhee, 73-64 and most recently came away with a 61-58 win over Furman in Spartanburg.  
  • Four players reached double figures in the team's win over the Paladins.
  • Trinity Johnson leads the Big South Conference with 55 assists and 5.5 assists per game. She is second in the conference with 41 free throws and 58 free throw attempts.
  • Dakota Reeves stands out in the Big South with 27 three pointers on the season. She averages 2.45 three's a game.
  • Rebekah Gordon paces the Spartans with 116 points, while Isabell West follows closely behind with 114.
  • Ac Markham stands atop USC Upstate with 70 boards.
  • Johnson was named to the 2023-24 Big South Women's Basketball Preseason All-Conference Second Team.
  • USC Upstate was picked to finish sixth in the Big South Preseason Poll.
SERIES HISTORY
The overall series between UNCG and USC Upstate is evenly matched at 3-3 overall. The two teams met last season in Fleming Gym when UNCG defeated USC Upstate, 54-48 on Nov. 23, 2022. Simpson led UNCG with 15 points in last year's win over USC Upstate.
