Men’s Tennis Hosts Coastal Carolina Friday, Travels to NCCU Sunday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team returns to play with two matches this weekend. The Spartans will first host Coastal Carolina on Friday, February 24 with a start time of 2 p.m.
 
UNCG will then travel to Durham, N.C. to battle in-state opponent North Carolina Central University for a Sunday afternoon match that is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
 
About the Spartans
  • The Spartans opened the New Year against No. 19 NC State, falling twice on January 14 in Raleigh, N.C.
  • UNCG is 1-5 overall this season with a 5-2 win over Longwood.
  • John Gabelic and David Flisberg have one of two Spartan doubles wins. It was a 6-3 win against a Longwood doubles pairing.
  • Harrison Gwynn and Devon Moskowitz picked up a double win over Radford with a score of 7-6 (7-3).
  • Andrew Black and Tymofiy Khrystyuk lead the Spartans in singles action with a 2-3 overall record each.
  • Five Spartans have one victory in singles play, including Wyatt Cannon (1-2), David Flisberg (1-4), John Gabelic (1-5), and Moskowitz (1-5).
  • Flisberg was named SoCon Player of the Week on January 24 after going 1-0 in singles and doubles action.  
About Coastal Carolina
  • The Chanticleers are 5-2 overall this season and 4-0 on the road.
  • Most recently, Coastal Carolina lost to Campbell, 7-0, on Wednesday.
  • The Chanticleers defeated the College of Charleston 4-3 on Feb. 15.
  • Maj Tomac and Guilherme lead the way with a 4-2 record in singles play each.
  • Steve Mundt and Carlos Berna Ruiz each are 3-3 in singles play.
  • Ryuya Ata is 3-4 with all of his wins coming at number two singles.
  • The Seahawks doubles pairings are 12-3 overall.
About NCCU
  • The Eagles continue its five-match home stand hosting the Spartans on Sunday.
  • NCCU is 0-6 this season.
  • NCCU picked up one point in a 6-1 loss to Queens University (CLT) on February 18.
  • Kareem Abdul Hakim won his singles match in the second spot with scores of 6-3, 6-3.
 
Up Next for the Spartans
Next week, the Spartans travel to Birmingham, Alabama to battle Southern Conference foe Samford in its SoCon opener on Saturday, Match 4 with a start time of 2 p.m.
 
UNCG then battles back to back Virginia opponents in Washington and Lee on Tuesday, March 7 in Lexington, Virginia and James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va on Wednesday, March 8.
