CLEMSON, S.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team opened the Clemson Classic with its fourth shutout of the season, a 3-0 victory over Jacksonville. Following the win, the Spartans fell to No. 4 Clemson, 3-0 Friday evening at McWhorter Stadium.
UNCG is now 14-9 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Delaney Cumbie had her lone hit to lead off the game sending the ball out to left field. After two outs,
Samantha Lagrama took a 1-1 count and crushed the ball over the left field wall for a 2-0 lead.

The Spartans loaded the bases in the top of the second but Jacksonville retired the side, before tallying two of its six hits in the bottom of the frame.

UNCG pushed one more run across in the top of the fourth as
Jessie Shipley led off the frame with a single through the left side.
Grace Loftin dropped a sacrifice bunt for the first out and Shipley was safe at second and advanced to third on an error.
Brooklynn Maxwell's single to left field easily scored Shipley for a 3-0 advantage.
NOTES
- In the circle, Rhyann Jones allowed six hits in 7.0 innings of work, striking out one batter and walking two.Â
- This was just her second complete game of the season.Â
- Lagrama hit her second homer of the season, and 27th of her career.
- Shipley went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored.
- Cumbie, Lagrama, and Maxwell each had one hit.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a quick game, where the Tigers tallied nine hits and the Spartans four hits, both teams were scoreless through the third inning.

With two outs in the top of the fourth, No. 4 Clemson had Caroline Jacobsen on second and Arielle Oda drove her in on a double down the left field line for the first run of the game. Aby Vieira followed with a single of her own to right center for a 2-0 advantage.

Vieira homered to center field in the top of the sixth to extend the Tigers' lead to three.
NOTES
- Cumbie and Grace Loftin went 1-for-3 at the plate.
- Brown swung 2-for-3 with a double.Â
