Men’s Tennis Travels to Virginia for Two Matches

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will play in five matches in four days this week, first traveling to Virginia to play Washington and Lee on Tuesday and then following that up with a battle against Sunbelt Conference rival James Madison on Wednesday.  
 
About the Spartans
  • The Spartans opened the New Year against No. 19 NC State, falling twice on January 14 in Raleigh, N.C.
  • UNCG is 1-8 overall this season with a 5-2 win over Longwood and 0-1 in SoCon play.
  • John Gabelic and David Flisberg are leading the Spartans in doubles action with a 4-5 record.
  • Harrison Gwynn and Devon Moskowitz picked up a doubles win over Radford with a score of 7-6 (7-3).
  • Andrew Black has a 3-5 overall record in singles play, while Tymofiy Khrystyuk is next with a 2-6 record.
  • Wyatt Cannon is 2-2, splitting time between No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
  • Flisberg was named SoCon Player of the Week on January 24 after going 1-0 in singles and doubles action.  
About Washington & Lee
  • The Generals are 6-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
  • Washington and Lee has lost the last two matches, playing in the Washburn Invitational.
  • The Generals fell to No. 8 N.C. Wesleyan, 1-8, and No. 11 Johns Hopkins, 2-7.
  • Sophomore Evan Erb was named ODAC Athlete of the Week.
  • Erb is leading the Generals with an 11-4 overall record.
  • Eli Hirshberg is second with a 9-5 record.
  • The doubles pairing of Erb and Evan Brady are 13-6 overall.
 
About JMU
  • The Dukes are 5-4 overall this season.
  • They have lost the last two matches 2-5 to Richmond and 2-5 to William & Mary.
  • Prior to those two loses, JMU was on a four-match win streak.
  • Holden Koons is leading the Dukes with a 22-7 overall record and a 7-2 record in dual play at No. 1 singles play.
  • Julien Lozano is 6-3 in dual play and 15-11 overall this season, while Edson Sanchez is 5-3 in dual play and 15-10 overall.
  • The doubles pairing of Edson and Lozano are a perfect 4-0 in duals play and 13-2 overall, playing in the No. 2 spot.
  • Koons was named Sun Belt Men's Tennis Player of the Week on February 8.

Up Next for the Spartans
Following the two matches in Virginia, UNCG will host Lees-McRae and Guilford on Saturday, March 11 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
 
They then host ETSU for its second SoCon match on Sunday, Match 12 at 1 p.m.
