GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team concluded the 2022-23 season at the Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship on Apr. 18.
POSTSEASON
Individually, sophomores
Grace Holcomb and
Ava Romfo led the way for the Spartans in the tournament. Holcomb concluded the tournament with a final round score even-par (72), improving 18 spots to finish tied for sixth overall in the tournament at 14-over-par (230). In addition, Romfo also closed out the tournament by earning a top 10 spot on the leaderboard. This marked the first time since the 2013 championship that UNCG has had two Spartans finish in the top 10.
As a team, UNCG finished in eighth place at the SoCon Women's Golf Championship.
TOP 4 TEAM FINISHES
The Spartans had three regular season tournaments where the squad finished in second place, including its own Grandover Invitational in September, the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina in October, and then the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate in March.
Overall, the Spartans had seven top-four finishes out of nine total tournaments this year.
SOCON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS
For the first time since 2018, two UNCG golfers were named to the SoCon All-Conference teams.
Holcomb earned a spot on the SoCon All-Conference team after leading UNCG with an average of 75.30 strokes in 23 rounds of play this season. The Wilmington, N.C. native tied for sixth at the SoCon Championship this year, which was 15 spots higher than her finish last year. The sophomore had four top-10 finishes on the season and tied her career best with a one-under-par (70) in the Elon Women's Invitational.
In addition,
Julia Baeumken, earned a spot on the SoCon All-Freshman team after averaging 75.95 strokes in 20 rounds on the season. The Kiel, Germany native posted two top-10 finishes on the season tying for eighth at the River Landing Classic with a seven-over-par (223) performance and tied for 10
th at the Pirate Invitational with a three-over-par (219) score. Baeumken shot her collegiate-low 71 three times this season, including at the Grandover Invitational, the Pirate Invitational, and the River Landing Classic.
THE CONCLUSION

Ashley Leonard will enter her fifth season with the Spartans in the upcoming 2023-24 season as the team anticipates the start of fall competition.
