Five from Men's Golf Named GCAA All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. — Five student-athletes on the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf 2022-23 roster have notched a spot on the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholars list, the association announced Wednesday.
 
Symon Balbin, Noah Connor, Randall Hudson, Tommy Lamb and Nick Lyerly not only made an impact on the course this season, but also in the classroom for each of them to be named 2022-23 NCAA Division I GCAA All-America Scholars.
 
To be eligible for the GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.
 
The UNCG men's golf team earned a 3.56 team GPA for the spring 2023 semester, while three student-athletes were named to the Chancellor's list with a 3.65 GPA or above.
 
In addition, to qualify for the award, student-athletes must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.00 in NCAA Division I.
 
Lyerly finished on top for the Spartans this past season after earning a stroke average of 70.45 on the year. The graduate student tied his career best with an eight-under-par (64) in the third round of the NCAA Regionals, for the second time this spring.
 
Balbin came right in behind Lyerly on the season with a 71.76 average. Hudson followed in third on the team with a 72.00 average and a top finish of 67. In addition, Connor finished the season with a 73.00 average, while Lamb recorded a 73.06 average for the Spartans this season.
 
519 NCAA Division I student-athletes from 182 schools earned 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholar honors. Three other Southern Conference (SoCon) men's golf teams had student-athletes earn a spot on the GCAA All-America Scholar list in Chattanooga, ETSU and Furman.
 
The Spartans look forward to a competitive 2023-24 season as the team finished up its most recent season at the NCAA Regionals.
