LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG
- The Spartans dropped its first two SoCon road contests at Mercer and Samford last week.
- The squad most recently fell at Samford, 62-53 in the Pete Hanna Center.
- Jayde Gamble paced both teams with 20 points.
- Kelly Boyle posted a new career high of 10 points for the Spartans.
- Ayanna Khalfani led the way with three steals.
- Gamble and Isys Grady combined for eight assists.
- Khalis Cain and Jay'lin Hastings captured two blocks apiece.
- UNCG collected 11 fast break points to Samford's two.
- The Spartans registered eight blocks to the Bulldogs' one.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- UNCG comes into the week with a 13-6 overall record and 2-2 in SoCon play.
- Gamble continues to stand out nationally at 16th and 21st in steals (53) and steals per game (2.79), respectively. She is also third in the conference with a 45.1 field goal percentage.
- Cain is ranked 23rd nationally with a 3.8 offensive rebounds per game average. She is third in the conference with 63 boards and a 1.05 blocks per game average on the season.
- Khalfani is fourth in the SoCon with a 3.4 assists per game average.
- Gamble leads the Spartans with 253 points this season. Khalfani and Grady follow closely behind with 181 and 178 points, respectively.
- Gamble has accumulated 13 double figure games this season.
- As a team the Spartans rank in the top 50 nationally in four categories: blocks per game (4.4), field goal percentage defense (36.5), offensive rebounds per game (14.3) and scoring defense (54.4).
- UNCG leads the SoCon in five statistical categories: blocks per game (4.4), scoring margin (11.2), steals per game (8.7), turnover margin (2.37), and turnovers forced per game (16.47).
- The Spartans were picked to finish sixth in the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, trailing ETSU, Chattanooga, Mercer, Wofford and Furman and coming in front of Samford and Western Carolina.
- Grady was named to the 2023-24 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after her efforts in the 2022-23 season.
SCOUTING THE MOCS
- Chattanooga comes to Greensboro leading the SoCon with a 15-3 overall record and 3-0 in the conference action.
- UNCG will be the first road SoCon battle for the Mocs this season.
- Chattanooga has defeated Mercer, Samford and most recently, ETSU at home to open conference play.
- The Mocs defeated No. 21 Mississippi State in non-conference action (59-53).
- The Mocs and the Spartans competed against two similar opponents in the non-conference schedule in Coastal Carolina and NC Central.
- Chattanooga ranks 14th nationally with a 78.6 free-throw percentage, 13th with a 54.1 scoring defense, and 12th with a 37.8 three-point percentage.
- The Mocs lead the SoCon in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, three-point percentage and winning percentage.
- Hannah Kohn stands out nationally at fourth with a 49.4 three-point percentage.
- Jada Guinn leads the SoCon in field goal attempts, free throw attempts, and free throws made.
- Chattanooga was picked to finish first in the SoCon Preseason Media Poll after gaining five first place votes.
SERIES HISTORY VS THE MOCS
Chattanooga leads in the overall series at 49-13. The Spartans went 1-1 against the Mocs last season. The two team's last met in a thrilling contest on Feb. 25, 2023, in Greensboro. UNCG claimed a 56-54 win over Chattanooga.
SCOUTING THE BUCS
- The Bucs sit at second in the conference with a 13-5 overall record and 2-1 in the SoCon.
- The Bucs will stop in Cullowhee on Thursday, Jan. 25 to take on the Catamounts before coming to Greensboro.
- ETSU is ranked ninth in the country with a 53.4 scoring defense.
- The Bucs lead the SoCon in fouls per game and scoring defense.
- Meghan Downing is ranked fourth in the conference with a 1.00 blocks per game average.
- Nevaeh Brown leads ETSU with 235 points this season, averaging 13.1 points per game.
- Jakhyia Davis stands out with 111 boards.
- Kendall Folley paces the Bucs with 42 assists and 21 steals.
- ETSU was picked to finish first in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll and second in the SoCon Preseason Media Poll.
SERIES HISTORY VS THE BUCS
The overall series between the Bucs and Spartans is even at 21-21. UNCG went 1-1 against ETSU last season after dropping its match in Johnson City but earning a 58-49 win in Greensboro.
