GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team took its first loss at home against Chattanooga, 73-55 on Thursday evening in Fleming Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Back-to-back field goals from
Khalis Cain gave UNCG a 4-0 start over the Mocs. Chattanooga got on the board for the first time at 6:51 with a three-pointer from Addie Porter. A quick response on a hook shot from
Ayanna Khalfani allowed UNCG to continue its lead (8-5). The Mocs were able to respond with a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the contest. However, a layup from Khalfani, followed by a couple free throws from
Jayde Gamble gave the Spartans the 12-9 edge to close out the first quarter.
Chattanooga came out of the huddle to drop a 7-2 run over UNCG (16-14). A couple jumpers from Gamble and
Antoniette Emma-Nnopu gave the Spartans the lead once again (18-16). The remainder of the first half continued to go back-and-forth between the Mocs and Spartans. With 51 seconds remaining,
Nasia Powell drove in for a layup to put the Spartans up, 30-29. The first half was ended with a three-pointer from Chattanooga to give the visiting team a 32-30 lead over UNCG heading into the break.
Khalfani put UNCG on the board first in the second half with a jumper in the paint to tie the game up (32-32). The Mocs responded with an 8-2 run to take the lead and hold it for the remainder of the game. With Chattanooga up 50-38 in the third quarter, the Spartans earned thier best scoring run of the game by dropping five unanswered points on the Mocs to cut the deficit to seven (50-43). One final free throw from Kailyn Farrell put Chattanooga up 51-43 heading into the final frame.
Chattanooga was able to outscore UNCG 22-12 in the fourth quarter. With 1:08 left in the game, a free-throw from Jada Guinn gave the Mocs their biggest lead of the game with the final score, 73-55.

- Cain and Gamble paced the Spartans with 14 points and seven rebounds apiece for the duo.
- Khalfani followed closely behind with 12 points and led UNCG with eight assists.
- Cain shot 6-for-8 in field goals on the night.
