Women's Tennis Returns Home to Host UNCW

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team will begin a three-game homestand starting by hosting UNC Wilmington on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
  • The Spartans head into the week with an 0-4 overall record on the spring slate.
  • UNCG most recently closed out a trip to Wyoming to take on the Buffaloes and a neutral site matchup to Colorado at the Wyoming Indoor Tennis Courts.
  • Colorado came away with the doubles point, but across some very close matches. Ella Olexa and Sydney Bly fought hard on court three but rounded out a 6-2 loss with Ema Bubalo and Anya Nelson.
  • Olivia Gallagher and Lauren Thomson finished up second on court two in a tight 6-4 loss to Mila Stanjovic and Elys Ventura to give the Buffaloes the doubles point.
  • Arina Babkova and Alexandra Dodashev competed in a similar face-off with Aya El Sayed and Pia Reber, going the way for Colorado, 6-4.
  • Across singles, Bly was able to give the Spartans their first point of the day by earning a 7-5, 6-4 win over Puzak on court five.
  • Olexa competed in an all-out battle with Willow Gretch, requiring a third set of action. Olexa was able to claim the match, 6-4, 2-6,10-4.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
  • UNC Wilmington heads into the weekend with a 2-0 overall record.
  • The team most recently claimed a 6-1 victory over Presbyterian at the UNCW Tennis Complex on Saturday, Feb. 3
  • Sophomore Gabbie Glickstein finished off her opponent in straight sets to provide the clinching point in the Seahawks' 6-1 win.
  • Steala Joksimovic and Alicia Eberwein helped the Seahawks earn the doubles point to open the match with a 6-4 win over Claudi Sanchez and Valentina de Sausa.
UP NEXT
Following Sunday's match, the Spartans will open up The Southern Conference (SoCon) slate by hosting ETSU on Thursday, Feb. 15 at noon at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
