Men’s Golf Tied for First Place After Strong Second Round in Palmas del Mar Collegiate

HUMACAO, PUERTO RICO – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team moved up two positions to stand in a two-way tie with Arkansas for first place after the second round of the Palmas del Mar Collegiate on Monday.

TEAM
  • The Spartans recorded the best team score of the second round after shooting a 16-under-par (272).
  • After earning a seven-under-par (281) in the first round of the tournament on Sunday, Arkansas closed out the second round with a 12-under-par (276) for the Spartans and Razorbacks to sit in a tie for first place at 19-under-par (557) after two rounds. 
  • UNCG leads all 16 teams with 50 birdies over the two rounds of play. The Spartans also stand at first place in par fours with a 3.92 average and are in a two-way tie for second place with a 3.15 average in par threes.
INDIVIDUAL
  • Symon Balbin stands atop the player leaderboard out of 99 total players competing. Balbin earned a five-under-par (67) in the second round for a total score of nine-under-par (135) over the two rounds.
  • Noah Connor follows closely behind Balbin after carding a two-under-par (70) in the second round to stand in 10th place solely. Connor also earned a two-under-par (70) in the first round.
  • Randall Hudson stands in a six-way tie for 17th place after earning a four-under-par (68), coming back from a two-over-par (74) in the first round.
  • After earning a five-over-par in the opening round on Sunday, Jack Marcotte came back in the second round to claim a five-under-par (67) on Monday. Marcotte currently stands in a four-way tie for 29th place.
  • Tommy Lamb rounded out the second game of action with an even score (72), placing him in a seven-way tie for 33rd place.
  • Keenan Royalty rounds out the scorecard for the Spartans after earning a six-over-par (78) in both the first and second rounds.
  • Balbin and Connor stand neck-in-neck in a four-way tie to lead all players with 12 birdies.

The Spartans will close out the final round of the Palmas del Mar Collegiate on Tuesday, Feb. 13 for an 7:00 AM EST/8:00 AST shotgun start at the Palmas del Mar Golf Club.
