GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to Ohio, 6-4, in the final game of the Spiro Classic hosted by the Spartans at the UNCG Softball Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Following an early 2-0 lead by the Bobcats after a two-run inside-the-park home run from Yasmine Logo in the top of the first, the Spartans cut the deficit to one, 2-1, in the bottom of the frame.
With two outs, UNCG loaded the bases on a walk, a single, and an error before
Maycin Brown walked on a full count, 2-1.
The Spartans strung together three hits for three runs in the bottom of the second for their first lead of the game, 4-2.
Blayke Batten led off the inning with a walk and moved over on
Madelyn McKinnon's sacrifice bunt.
Brooklynn Maxwell turned on an 0-1 count sending the ball over the left center wall for her fourth home run of the season, 3-2.
Jessie Shipley followed with a double down the left field line and
Grace Loftin drove her in on a single to center field, 4-2. The Spartans threatened once more with runners on first and second, but the Bobcats retired two batters to get out of the inning.
After four scoreless innings, Ohio capitalized on two outs and runners on first and second to tie the game at four as Yasmine Logo connected for a two-run double in the top of the seventh. Annalia Paol followed with a two-run blast over the left field wall putting the Bobcats up 6-4. The Spartans were able to get out of the inning with a ground out, leaving two on base.
UNCG's
Samantha Beck had the only hit for the Spartans in the bottom of the seventh and Ohio left her on base to secure the win.

- Maxwell and Loftin each had two hits apiece.
- Maxwell led the team with two RBI.
- Beck tallied the second double of her career.
- Rhyann Jones tossed 6.0 innings, giving up three runs and struck out three batters.

UNCG will hit the road for the next nine games. First the Spartans will travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to face the Tar Heels at Anderson Softball Field on Wednesday, February 21 with a 4:00 p.m. start time before competing in the I-75 Tournament from February 23 to February 25.
