Women’s Basketball Hosts Elon in Triad Showdown

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team continues its home non-conference stretch by welcoming Triad foe Elon on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in Bodford Arena.

This will be the 50th overall meeting between the Phoenix and Spartans. UNCG leads the overall series at 26-23. The two teams last met on Dec. 10, 2023, in Greensboro when the Blue & Gold picked up a 52-47 victory over Elon.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG dominated in a 119-35 win over Bob Jones Saturday in Bodford Arena.
  • The last time UNCG scored 100 points in a contest was in a 104-21 victory over Greensboro College on Dec. 31, 2024.
  • All 13 Spartans scored in the contest.
  • Ella Pierre-Louis and Salimata Traore notched their first collegiate points of their career.
  • Five Spartans reached double-figures in the game.
  • Jeni Levine notched her first career double-double after leading the contest with 19 points and adding a career-best 10 boards.
  • Leyla Minor followed closely behind with a new career-best 15 points.
  • Makiah Asidanya and Mia Simpson chipped in 14 points apiece, marking a new season-best for Simpson.
  • Tasia Johnson rounded out the Spartans in double-figures after matching her season-best of 12 points.
  • UNCG led the way in just about every statistical category including: three-pointers (13-4), free throws (16-3), turnovers forced (33-10), points off turnovers (50-8), rebounds (50-21), second chance points (22-6), bench points (60-2), points in the paint (60-14), fast break points (31-0), blocks (4-0), steals (25-2) and assists (25-8).
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • The Spartans are leading The Southern Conference (SoCon) in assist/turnover ratio (0.87), scoring defense (57.0), scoring margin (6.5) and turnover margin (4.82).  
  • UNCG is second in the league in assists per game (12.9), rebound margin (-0.2), steals per game (9.5), three-point attempts per game (25.3), three-pointers per game (7.5) and turnovers forced per game (19.64).
  • Levine is second in the SoCon in points (167) and points per game (15.2).
  • Levine (15.2) and Asidanya (12.0) continue to lead the Blue & Gold in double-figures this season.
  • Asidanya stands out from behind the arc, shooting 36.1 percent.
  • Levine is pacing the team in steals, averaging 1.7 a game.
  • Johnson is the best facilitator on the team with a 2.8 average on assists per game. 
  • Rylan Moffitt stands out in the post with 6.7 boards per game and 1.1 blocks per game.
  • The Spartans are currently on a 21-game winning streak at home and are 32-1 at home over the past two seasons.
  • Asidanya's career-best 22 points at Auburn this season led her to be named SoCon Player of the Week in the first round of weekly awards on Nov. 11.
  • UNCG was voted to finish second with two first-place votes in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Jaila Lee and Asidanya were selected to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after both of their stellar performances last season.
  • The reigning SoCon Coach of the Year, Head Coach Trina Patterson is in her 10th year with the Blue & Gold this season.
  • The 2025-26 roster features five returners and eight newcomers. Four of the newcomers are freshmen, while the other four are transfer students.
  • UNCG comes into the 2025-26 season after a historic 2024-25 campaign.
  • The Spartans earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 1998. The team defeated Chattanooga, 64-57, in The 2025 SoCon Championship, earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
  • The team fell to No. 1 USC in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.
 SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
  • Elon makes the short trip to Greensboro with a 3-6 overall record.
  • The Phoenix most recently dropped a back-and-forth battle with the Longwood Lancers on Sunday in Elon, North Carolina, 67-66.
  • Elon was voted to finish fifth in the 2025-26 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason Poll out of the 13-team league.
  • Jayda Angel was named to the 2025-26 All-CAA Preseason First Team.
  • This marks the second SoCon opponent Elon will face in its non-conference schedule as the team earned a 65-56 overtime win over ETSU on Nov. 3, in Johnson City.
  • The Phoenix are leading the CAA in bench points per game (27.3) and three-point percentage defense (25.1).
  • Maaja Pass is third in the league with a 1.93 assist/turnover ratio. She leads Elon with 14 steals and 27 assists this season.
  • LaNae' Corbett paces the team in double figures with a 10.3 scoring average.
  • Tyana Walker stands out from behind the arc with 14 three-pointers this season.
  • Quinzia Fulmore leads the team with a 5.8 rebounds per game average and six blocks.
  • Head Coach Charlotte Smith is in her 15th season at the helm of the Elon Phoenix women's basketball program. She has led the program to a 224-205 record during her time.

FLEMING GYMNASIUM RENAMED BODFORD ARENA
  • On Saturday, Nov. 8, Fleming Gymnasium, home to UNCG volleyball, women's basketball and men's basketball was renamed to Bodford Arena.
  • This historic moment for the department was made possible through a transformational $2 million gift from the Bodford family.
  • This generous support represents the largest unrestricted gift in the history of UNCG Athletics, as well as the first associated with naming a competitive athletic facility.  
  • The University is already familiar with the Bodford name - the Bodford Family Speed, Strength & Conditioning Center was dedicated in October 2020.
