Four Spartans Reach Double-Figures as Women’s Basketball Claims 77-32 Victory Over South Carolina State

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team secured a 77-32 victory over the Bulldogs of South Carolina State on Monday afternoon inside Bodford Arena.

Four Spartans reached double-figures in the contest. Jeni Levine led the game by matching her season-best 21 points. Makiah Asidanya followed closely behind with 16 points. Rylan Moffitt recorded her fifth career double-double and second of the season with 11 points and a season-best 14 rebounds. Tasia Johnson rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points.

The win over the Bulldogs marks 23-straight home wins for the Spartans and makes the team 34-1 over the past two seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A turnaround jumper from Johnson at 9:14 put the Spartans on the board first in the contest. South Carolina State tied the game up twice before Levine scored six-straight points to grant the Spartans with a six-point advantage, 10-4, at 5:49. UNCG never allowed South Carolina State to gain the lead in the game. Despite the Bulldogs collecting the final bucket of the frame, UNCG held an 18-12 advantage going to the bench.

After heavy defense kept both teams scoreless for the first 3:17 of the second quarter, a three-pointer from Asidanya at 6:43 propelled the Spartans to outscore the Bulldogs 20-5 the rest of the way. Both teams went into the locker room with the Blue & Gold holding a 38-17 lead at the half.

The third quarter was more evenly matched, but the Spartans were still able to hold the 16-11 scoring advantage over the Bulldogs in the stanza. Asidanya knocked down her fourth three-pointer of the game at 3:32, beginning a 10-0 Spartan run, 54-23. South Carolina State secured the final two baskets of the third quarter, but UNCG maintained the 54-28 advantage at the break.

The Spartans picked up the momentum in the final frame, outscoring South Carolina State, 23-4. This was the 14th time this season and second time in today's contest that UNCG held a team to single digits in a quarter. UNCG strung together its best scoring run of the game to begin the final frame with a 20-2 margin. South Carolina State secured the final bucket of the game with 13 seconds on the clock, but UNCG walked away comfortably with the 77-32 win.
