GREENVILLE, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 contest in its Southern Conference (SoCon) opener at Furman on Friday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center.
Furman took the 1-0 lead in the contest after securing the doubles point. Matt Kandel and Elijah Poritzky defeated
Tymofiy Khrystyuk and
Luke Thomson, 6-4 on court one. Nicolas Dispas and Nico Snyder secured the 1-0 lead for Furman after claiming the 7-5 win over
William Elmers and
John Gabelic on court two.
Andrew Black and
Devon Moskowitz notched a 7-5 doubles matchup with Cole Burnam and Connor Laymon on court two, but it wouldn't be enough to keep Furman from holding the 1-0 lead going into singles matches.
The Paladins continued their momentum into singles play by winning all six matches for the 7-0 win. Poritzky put Furman up 2-0 to start things out by defeating Khrystyuk, 6-2, 6-0, on court one. Matt Kandel defeated Gabelic, 6-0, 6-3, on court two just before Joly Theophile clinched the match for Furman with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Thomson on court three. Dispas gave Furman a 5-0 advantage after taking down Black, 6-3, 6-4, on court four. Allen Walker secured Furman with a 6-0 lead in a 6-4, 6-2 win over Moskowitz on court five followed by Laymon defeating Elmers, 6-2, 7-5, on court six to give Furman the 7-0 victory.
