BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell 6-1 while competing against Gardner-Webb (GWU) on Wednesday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
William Elmers and
John Gabelic picked up a 6-3 win to get things started for the Spartans. After the Runnin' Bulldogs secured the second set, 6-3, UNCG's
Andrew Black and
Devon Moskowitz earned a 7-6 (4) win to give the Spartans the doubles point.
GWU then rattled off six straight victories during singles play to cruise to the 6-1 victory. It started with Kim Niethammer earning a 6-2, 6-1, win over
Luke Thomson. Black then fell 6-0, 6-2, while facing Gardner-Webb's Alexandre Bergeron. Numa Lemieux-Monette then prevailed over Gabelic, 7-5, 6-1, before Eduardo Dias overcame
Tymofiy Khrystyuk, 6-1, 7-6 (1). The afternoon ended with Boyd Schreiber defeating Elmers, 5-7, 6-3, 10-7, and Moskowitz coming up just short against Lepine, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.
