GREENSBORO, N.C. – Alexandra Dodashev and
Luna Urso of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team both collected singles wins in the team's 5-2 loss to Gardner-Webb on Wednesday at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
"We are putting ourselves in a position to win and doing the right things in that process," said Head Coach
Mat Iandolo. "Alexandra and Luna played great matches."
The Runnin' Bulldogs secured the doubles point after Arili Boshoff and Emilia Roslund defeated Dodashev and
Olivia Gallagher, 6-3, on court one just before Gretz Murzsa and Alizee Poulin secured a 6-4 win over
Elisabeth Birkevold and
Lauren Thomson on court three. Despite Gardner-Webb notching the doubles point,
Sydney Bly and
Raegan Mitchell were able to claim their doubles match with Valeria Lloclla and Milica Prokic, 6-3.
Dodashev put the Spartans on the board to start off singles play with a dominating 6-2, 6-0, win over Poulin on court two to tie the match, 1-1. However, the Runnin' Bulldogs earned the next four singles contests to clinch the match. Prokic defeated Mitchell, 6-2, 6-3, on court three for Gardner-Webb to take the 2-1 advantage. Boshoff defeated Bly, 7-5, 6-3, on court five just before Roslund secured the match-clinching point for the Running Bulldogs, after taking down Gallagher, 6-3, 6-4, on court one. Natalie Crawford gave Gardner-Webb the 5-1 lead after defeating Thomson, 7-5, 7-5 on court four. Urso secured her final match to give UNCG its second point of the day in a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lloclla on court six. However, Gardner-Webb was able to walk away with the 5-2 victory.
