CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The No. 8 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team dropped its match with No. 1 Furman, 4-0, in the quarterfinal round of The Southern Conference (SoCon) Championships on Thursday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Furman got on the board first in the contest by securing the first two doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Alexa Griffith and Marissa Pennings defeated
Lauren Thomson and
Ella Olexa, 6-0, on court three. Jess Dawson and Macy Hitchcock were able to go on and claim the 6-4 battle over
Raegan Mitchell and
Sydney Bly on court two to make it 1-0 Paladins. The matchup at No. 1 doubles between
Olivia Gallagher &
Alexandra Dodashev and Ellie Schulson & Sara Snyder remained unfinished at 5-5.
The Paladins continued their momentum by notching the first three singles matches for the 4-0 win. Dawson notched a 6-2, 6-1, win over Thomson on court three before Snyder defeated Gallagher, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to make it 3-0 Furman. Hitchcock clinched the match for Furman after a 6-1, 6-2, win over
Elisabeth Birkevold on court five.

UNCG concluded the 2025 regular season 3-18 overall and 0-7 in the SoCon. Thomson finished on top for the Spartans in singles for the second consecutive year after tallying eight wins on the 2025 campaign. Birkevold was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team after her stellar freshman season.
