Men’s Tennis Cruises to 5-2 Victory Over Belmont Abbey

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team cruised to a 5-2 victory over Belmont Abbey on Tuesday at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

The Spartans got their momentum started early by claiming all three doubles matches. John Gabelic and Devon Moskowitz defeated Aarav Hada and Joel Lamotte, 6-2, on court one. Tymofiy Khrystyuk and Hector Nissen went on to secure the doubles point for the Spartans in a 6-4 win over Joshua Mayhew and Jack McGregor on court two. On court three, William Elmers and Sammy Presser closed out doubles action with a 6-4 victory over Nicholas Rizzo and Brody Sawyer.

UNCG went on to secure four of six singles matches for the 5-2 win. Gabelic put the Blue & Gold up 2-0 in a quick 6-0, 6-2, win over Ryan Nguyen at singles No. 1. Khrystyuk made it 3-0 when he took down Joel Lamotte, 6-1, 6-3, on court two. Nicholas Rizzo was able to put the Crusaders on the board, defeating Elmers, 6-4, 6-3, at singles No. 4. However, Nissen clawed his way to a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, match-clinching point over Brady Sawyer on court five. Presser gave UNCG the 5-1 lead at court six after earning a 7-6 (3), 6-4, battle over Mayhew on court six. Hada tallied one more for the Crusaders, defeating Moskowitz, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5, at court three.

The Spartans will have a brief one-week respite before beginning a five-game homestand, starting with James Madison coming to Greensboro on Friday, Feb. 27 at 2:00 p.m. The Spartans will then host Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m. on the UNCG Tennis Courts.
