Women’s Basketball Travels West to Take on ETSU & Chattanooga

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team will travel west to continue The Southern Conference (SoCon) campaign by taking on the ETSU Bucs on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Brooks Gymnasium. The Spartans will conclude their road trip with the Chattanooga Mocs on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. inside McKenzie Arena.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG dropped its final two home matches of the season last week, falling to Wofford, 51-38, on Thursday and Furman, 63-61, on Saturday.
  • Makiah Asidanya led the Spartans with back-to-back double figure games, averaging 13.5 points per game on the week.
  • In the team's game against Wofford, Jeni Levine reached the 1,000-career points milestone. Of her 1,000 points, 640 came at USC Upstate, while the remaining 360 have been recorded this season at UNCG.
  • Against the Paladins, Asidanya led the Spartans with 17 points, while Levine followed closely behind with 14 points. 
  • In addition, Rylan Moffitt paced the contest by matching her season-best of 14 rebounds.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG comes into the week with a 13-13 overall record and 3-8 mark, sitting in seventh place in the SoCon standings.
  • UNCG is leading the SoCon in four statistical categories: assist/turnover ratio (0.92), scoring defense (55.4), scoring margin (8.6) and turnover margin (3.77).
  • The Blue & Gold are second in the league in assists per game (13.4), free throw percentage (74.5), offensive rebounds per game (13.2), three-point attempts per game (23.0) and three-pointers per game (7.2).
  • The Spartans' 55.4 scoring defense is ninth in the country.
  • Jaila Lee is second in the SoCon with a 91.7 percentage at the charity stripe.
  • Moffitt is second in the league with 190 total rebounds this season.
  • Levine (14.5) and Asidanya (10.9) are pacing the Spartans in double-figure scoring this season.
  • UNCG is leading its opponents in several statistical categories: points (64.0-55.4), field goals (23.2-19.8), three-pointers (7.2-5.2), rebounding (37.0-33.9), assists (13.4-10.0), assist/turnover ratio (0.9-0.5), points off turnovers (17.7-11.5) and steals (9.3-7.0).
  • Asidanya (Nov. 11) and Lee (Jan. 13) have both picked up SoCon Player of the Week accolades for the 2025-26 season.
  • UNCG was voted to finish second with two first-place votes in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Lee and Asidanya were selected to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after both of their stellar performances last season.
  • The reigning SoCon Coach of the Year, Head Coach Trina Patterson is in her 10th year with the Blue & Gold this season.
  • The 2025-26 roster features five returners and eight newcomers. Four of the newcomers are freshmen, while the other four are transfer students.
  • UNCG comes into the 2025-26 season after a historic 2024-25 campaign.
  • The Spartans earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 1998. The team defeated Chattanooga, 64-57, in The 2025 SoCon Championship, earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
  • The team fell to No. 1 USC in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.
 SCOUTING THE BUCS
  • ETSU comes into Thursday's contest with a 13-12 overall record and 6-4 SoCon mark, sitting in fourth place in the league standings.
  • The Bucs went 1-1 last week falling to Mercer, 50-45, on Tuesday, but securing a double overtime win at Chattanooga on Saturday, 91-90.
  • Meghan Downing is pacing the SoCon in blocks (47) and blocks per game (2.14). She is second in the league in rebounds per game (8.2).
  • Anala Nelson is leading the conference with 105 free throws this season.
  • She is pacing the Bucs in double figures this season (11.0) and leads the team with a 2.4 assists per game average.
  • Carmen Richardson leads the Bucs with a 1.3 steals per game average.
  • Jaidyn Harper stands out from behind the arc with a 32.7 three-point percentage.
  • The Bucs concluded the 2024-25 season 17-13 overall and 8-6 in the SoCon.
  • ETSU was picked to finish third in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the 2025-26 season.
  • Downing and Richardson were named to the Preseason All-SoCon Team.
  • Head Coach Brenda Mock Brown is in her fourth season with the Bucs and has led the program to a 73-47 record during her time.
SERIES HISTORY VS THE BUCS
UNCG holds the slight edge over ETSU in the overall series at 24-23. ETSU secured the two teams' first meeting this season, 58-48, in Greensboro on Saturday, Jan. 24.

 SCOUTING THE MOCS
  • Chattanooga comes into the week with a 16-7 overall record and an 8-2 conference record, sitting atop the SoCon standings.
  • The Mocs have dropped their past two games, snapping a 12-game winning streak.
  • Chattanooga fell to Wofford on Saturday, Feb. 7, 67-63, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and most recently dropped a contest with ETSU on Saturday in double overtime, 91-90, at McKenzie Arena.
  • Chattanooga is pacing the SoCon in field goal percentage (42.6), rebound margin (4.8) and three-point percentage (33.4).
  • The Mocs are second in the league in field goal percentage defense (37.4), defensive rebounds per game (25.9), scoring defense (58.6) and three-point percentage defense (29.1).
  • Caia Elisaldez is pacing the SoCon in assists (122), assists per game (5.3) and points per game (15.7). She is second in assist/turnover ratio (1.36).
  • Gianna Corbitt is second in the SoCon with a 50.6 field goal percentage.
  • Elisaldez was named SoCon Preseason Player of the Year, while her and Corbitt were tabbed to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • The Mocs' 2024-25 season was concluded with an 85-72 loss at Troy in the WNIT Second Round. Chattanooga finished the season 17-15 overall and 9-5 in the SoCon.
  • Head Coach Deandra Schirmer is in her second season at the helm of the Chattanooga women's basketball program.
  • The Mocs will host Western Carolina on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. before welcoming in the Spartans on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY VS THE MOCS
The Mocs pace the overall series against the Spartans at 52-17. Chattanooga secured the meeting earlier this season, 50-42, in Bodford Arena on Thursday, Jan. 22.

FLEMING GYMNASIUM RENAMED BODFORD ARENA
  • On Saturday, Nov. 8, Fleming Gymnasium, home to UNCG volleyball, women's basketball and men's basketball was renamed to Bodford Arena.
  • This historic moment for the department was made possible through a transformational $2 million gift from the Bodford family.
  • This generous support represents the largest unrestricted gift in the history of UNCG Athletics, as well as the first associated with naming a competitive athletic facility.  
  • The University is already familiar with the Bodford name - the Bodford Family Speed, Strength & Conditioning Center was dedicated in October 2020.
