Men’s Tennis Gears Up For Weekend Home Slate

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team will begin a five-matchhomestand starting with out-of-conference opponents James Madison on Friday then Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) on Saturday at UNCG Tennis Courts. Both matches will begin at 2:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS      

  • Most recently, the Spartans defeated Belmont Abbey, 5-2, on Feb. 17 then lost at Coastal Carolina, 7-0, on Feb. 20.  

  • The Spartans opened The Southern Conference (SoCon) action 1-0 with a 5-2 victory over The Citadel. 

  • The Spartans traveled to North Carolina on Feb. 10, and lost 5-0 to the Tar Heels.    

  • UNCG fell in its home opener against North Carolina Central, 4-3, and Elon, 6-1 on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, respectively.   

  • Senior John Gabelic captured his 100th career win against North Carolina Central on Feb. 7.     

  • The duo of Gabelic and Moskowitz are 5-2 in doubles so far this season.      

  • The Spartans competed in four tournaments in the 2025 fall season.         

  • UNCG began the fall campaign by traveling to the Elon Invitational from Sept. 12-14.         

  • The doubles duo of Sammy Presser and Alan Trbonja led the squad with two doubles victories over the first two days, making it to the final round of the Invitational.          

  • UNCG then hosted the Spartan Fall Invitational from Sept. 19-20 at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro, North Carolina.          

  • As a team, the Spartans won 20 singles matches over the three-day event.          

  • UNCG took part in the Davidson Fall Invitational at Davidson Tennis Courts from Sept. 26-27. In the two-day event, Gabelic won all three matches to win his draw.         

  • At the ITA Carolina Regionals, from Oct. 16-Oct. 19, the tandem of Gabelic and William Elmers made it to the Round of 16 on Saturday before losing to South Carolina.        

  • At The SoCon Masters Qualifier, Moskowitz won his singles draw qualifying for the main tournament held in the spring.        

  • In the Wake Forest Invitational, senior Andrew Black won his singles draw, while the Spartans captured 15 victories across the three-day event in all competitions.           

SCOUTING THE DUKES 

  • James Madison enters this match with a 4-3 record.   

  • Most recently, the Dukes lost ,4-3, to Longwood but before that won the last four matches. 

  • Zach Fleishman leads the squad going 14-5 so far this season.  

  • The Dukes' Esteve Agusti and Francisco Sinopoli won Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week this past week, besting No. 61 ranked duo Daniel Borisov and Timeo Puech of Longwood, 6-2.   

  • Steve Secord enters his 34th season as head coach of the program.   

SCOUTING THE EAGLES 

  • Florida Gulf Coast currently sits at 1-8 on the season. 

  • The Eagles most recently were defeated by Miami ,0-4, in Coral Gables, Florida.  

  • Head Coach Josh Molino enters his second year as head of the program. 

  • The Eagles and Spartans have only met once prior, with UNCG claiming a 4-3 win over FGCU in a neutral-site match held in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 2020. 

  • FGCU will travel to Elon on Friday before making the trip over to Greensboro on Saturday.

The Spartans will continue the SoCon slate, taking on Furman on Wednesday, March 4, at 1:00 p.m. and Samford on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be held at UNCG Tennis Courts
