GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell just short in the 4-3 loss to James Madison on Friday at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
UNCG grabbed the early lead, claiming the doubles point in a 2-1 decision. John Gabelic and Devon Moskowitz defeated Francisco Sinopoli and Zach Fleishman, 6-4, on court one. Tymofiy Khrystyuk and Lars Frafjord lost to Ryan Morgan and Grant Kroodsma, 4-6, on court three setting up the point clinching match on court two. Hector Nissen and William Elmers were able to seal the deal putting away Aurelien Schmitt and Harrison Lee, 7-6.
In singles play, UNCG made it 2-0 on court three when Moskowitz earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sinopoli. However, JMU evened up the match 2-2 with back-to-back victories. Morgan defeated Gabelic, 7-5, 6-1 , and Nissen fell to Fleishman, 4-6, 4-6, on court four.
The Spartans recaptured the lead as Khrystyuk rallied past Schmitt in three sets for a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 win. However Gur Libal defeated Elmer,2-6, 6-2, 6-3, to set up the match deciding point on court six. Freshman Sammy Presser was unable to squeak out the win as Lee bested him, 6-4,6-4, for the 4-3 loss.
UNCG will look to bounce back as they play Florida Gulf Coast tomorrow at UNCG Tennis Courts at 2:00 p.m.
