Women’s Tennis Travels to Davidson Sunday

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team will travel to Davidson, North Carolina, to take on the Davidson Wildcats on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG comes into Friday's contest 0-4 overall on the 2026 season after most recently falling at Wake Forest, 0-7, on Friday, Jan. 30.
  • The Spartans fell in their spring opening doubleheader at No. 14 Virginia (7-0, 4-0) on Thursday, Jan. 15 and then dropped a match at No. 11 N.C. State on Sunday, Jan. 18, 7-0.
  • UNCG competed in four tournaments in the 2025 fall slate.
  • UNCG began the fall campaign by hosting the UNCG Tournament from Sept. 13-14 at the UNCG Tennis Courts. Sophia Cedeno led the Spartans by capturing two singles wins on the weekend. Doubles duo Sara Kostic and Kayley Bushnell paced the squad with two doubles victories over the two days.
  • The Spartans also competed at the Elon Tournament from Sept. 19-20 in Elon, North Carolina. Cedeno led the Spartans with two singles wins, while Bushnell captured one singles win in the tournament.
  • UNCG participated in the ITA Chapel Hill Regional from Oct. 16-18 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Lauren Thomson and Cedeno led the Spartans by collecting one singles win apiece in the tournament.
  • The Spartans wrapped up the fall slate at the UNC Wilmington Invitational from Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Wilmington, North Carolina. Bushnell paced the Spartans by capturing three singles wins in the tournament. Kostic and Sofia Somoano led UNCG with two doubles wins across the three-day event. Cedeno and Thomson picked up one doubles win on the weekend.
  • UNCG concluded the 2025 regular season 3-18 overall and 0-7 in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
  • Thomson finished on top for the Spartans in singles for the second consecutive year after tallying eight wins on the 2025 campaign. 
  • Sydney Bly led the team last season with nine total doubles wins.
  • Head Coach Mati Iandolo is in his second season at the helm of the UNCG women's tennis program.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
  • Davidson comes into Sunday's match 1-0 overall after securing its lone 7-0 win over Queens on Friday, Jan. 23, in Davidson.
  • After doubles team Olivia Hooper and Keri Rothenberg defeated Kaila Angeles and Daniela Tomasa, 6-0, on court three, Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford clinched the doubles point with a 6-0 win.
  • Langford provided the clinching point with her 6-1, 6-1 decision over Zoe Cvitanovic.
  • The Wildcats return nine letterwinners from last year's squad that posted a 13-9 overall record, which included a 7-4 mark at home.
  • Among those returning includes 2025 all-conference selection Kollock, who posted a 6-3 record during fall competition.
  • Ellie Hammond returns after leading the Wildcats with a 20-11 singles record last year.
  • Last season Davidson defeated UNCG, 6-1, in Greensboro on Feb. 2, 2025.
  • Head Coach Susanne Depka is in her ninth season at the helm of the Davidson women's tennis program.

The Spartans will open their 2026 home slate by hosting the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 1:00 p.m. at either the UNCG Tennis Courts or the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
