Men's Tennis at ETSU and Wofford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team goes on the road to battle back-to-back Southern Conference (SoCon) opponents at ETSU on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. and Wofford on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS         

  • The Spartans come into these matches 2-10 overall and 1-2 in SoCon action.   

  • Most recently, the Spartans dropped their home match against Gardner-Webb, 5-2, on Monday.  

  • The duo of John Gabelic and Devon Moskowitz are 7-3 in doubles so far this season, which is tied for second in the SoCon.   

  • The Spartans defeated Belmont Abbey, 5-2, on Feb. 17, for the first home win of the season.    

  • The Spartans opened SoCon action 1-0 with a 5-2 victory over The Citadel on Feb. 14.    

  • Moskowitz, Khrystyuk and Hector Nissen all went 2-0 in the SoCon opener.     

  • UNCG fell in its home opener against North Carolina Central, 4-3, and Elon, 6-1 on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, respectively.      

  • Senior Gabelic captured his 100th career win against North Carolina Central on Feb. 7.        

  • The Spartans competed in four tournaments in the 2025 fall season.            

  • UNCG began the fall campaign by traveling to the Elon Invitational from Sept. 12-14.            

  • The doubles duo of Sammy Presser and Alan Trbonja led the squad with two doubles victories over the first two days, making it to the final round of the Invitational.             

  • UNCG then hosted the Spartan Fall Invitational from Sept. 19-20 at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro, North Carolina.             

  • As a team, the Spartans won 20 singles matches over the three-day event.             

  • UNCG took part in the Davidson Fall Invitational at Davidson Tennis Courts from Sept. 26-27. In the two-day event, Gabelic won all three matches to win his draw.            

  • At the ITA Carolina Regionals, Oct. 16-Oct. 19, the tandem of Gabelic and William Elmers made it to the Round of 16 on Saturday before losing to South Carolina.           

  • At The SoCon Masters Qualifier, Moskowitz won his singles draw qualifying for the main tournament held in the spring.           

  • In the Wake Forest Invitational, senior Andrew Black won his singles draw, while the Spartans captured 15 victories across the three-day event in all competitions.              

SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS 

  • ETSU enters the match 10-3, while also being ranked 68th in the national ITA rankings.  

  • The Buccaneers took down No. 43 UNC Charlotte, 4-3, on March 1.  

  • Most recently, ETSU defeated in-state and future SoCon member Tennessee Tech, 4-0, last Tuesday.  

  • The Buccaneers boast the best singles player in the conference with Oscar Martinez, going 16-2 in all matches played.  

  • Martinez has also been named SoCon Player of the Week three times this season.  

  • James Sim and Juan Listo have been the top duo for ETSU this season, going 7-3 in doubles.  

SCOUTING THE TERRIERS 

  • Wofford welcomes UNCG to Spartanburg with a 6-6 record and are 1-1 in conference play.    

  • The Terriers most recently played Belmont University and lost, 2-5, at home.   

  • Julian Brager-Carlsen and Jack Burdell have been Wofford's top singles players going 6-1 and 7-4, respectively.  

  • All three of the Terriers' doubles teams have at least five wins this season.

UNCG will stay on the road as they travel to Davidson on March 24 at 3:00 p.m., then welcome North Carolina A&T to UNCG Tennis Courts at 2:00 p.m. on March 26.
