Women’s Tennis Prepares for Road Clash at Charleston Southern

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team will take on the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG comes into the week 1-10 overall on the 2026 season.
  • The Spartans most recently fell at No. 3 North Carolina, 4-0, on Thursday, March 5 in Chapel Hill.
  • Prior to the loss against the Tar Heels, UNCG secured its first win of the season, shutting out Converse, 7-0, on Sunday, March 1 at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
  • The team opened The Southern Conference (SoCon) slate on Saturday, Feb. 28, falling to ETSU, 6-1, at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
  • Kayley Bushnell picked up her first collegiate win in the match against the Bucs, defeating Niyati Kukreti, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at singles No. 5.
  • Sara Kostic and Ivet Sala-Sánchez are pacing the Spartans with three singles wins apiece this season.
  • Bushnell and Sofia Somoano are following closely behind with two wins each.
  • Doubles teams Sophia Cedeno & Kostic and Sala-Sánchez & Bushnell are leading the Spartans with two doubles wins each.
  • UNCG competed in four tournaments in the 2025 fall slate.
  • The Spartans concluded the 2025 regular season 3-18 overall and 0-7 in the SoCon.
  • Lauren Thomson finished on top for the Spartans in singles for the second consecutive year after tallying eight wins on the 2025 campaign. 
  • Sydney Bly led the team last season with nine total doubles wins.
  • Head Coach Mat Iandolo is in his second season at the helm of the UNCG women's tennis program.
SCOUTING THE BUCS
  • Charleston Southern is 4-7 overall on the 2026 campaign.
  • The Bucs most recently defeated East Carolina, 4-0, on Monday in Charleston.
  • UNCG will be the second SoCon opponent Charleston Southern will face this year as the team took down Wofford, 4-3, on Jan. 30.
  • Six different Bucs have collected two wins each this season to lead the team in singles play.
  • Carlota Farrés Carreter & Marina Skegro and Camila Molina Barranco & Brenda Yoris are pacing the team with two doubles wins apiece.
  • Charleston Southern concluded the 2025 season 17-5 overall and 5-0 in the Big South.
  • Last year's squad defeated Gardner-Webb, 4-1, in the Big South Championship, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Bucs fell to No. 12 NC State in the First Round, 4-0.
  • Head Coach Anca Dumitrescu is in her eighth season at the helm of the Charleston Southern women's tennis program.
