GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team earned an 8-1 come-from-behind victory over Lehigh on Friday afternoon at UNCG Softball Stadium.
This was the 10
th game this season with double-digit hits, as the Spartans totaled 10 in the victory.
Kaylyn Belfield reached 100 hits in 85 games played in the Blue & Gold. This brings her career total to 171 hits, with 71 of them with Lipscomb.
The Spartans are now 16-12 overall.
- Lehigh made the first move of the game and scored on a throwing error in the top of the first for a 1-0 advantage.
- The Spartans broke open the game with eight runs spread through the second and third innings.
- Following a quick one-two-three top of the second, UNCG tallied two runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame.
- With two outs, Jazmin Mejia found the gap in left center for a double and brought home Hadley Gardner, 1-1.
- Betsy Eatmon then followed with an RBI single to right field, sending Mejia to third and then home for a 2-1 edge.
- The bottom of the third included six runs on six hits for the Blue & Gold extending their lead to seven, 8-1.
- The offensive attack started off with a Macy Michael leadoff homer over the left field wall for her fifth blast of the season.
- Avery Bouquin's single, Gardner's double, Madelyn McKinnon's double and Belfield's single also put runs on the board for the Spartans.
- UNCG's pitching staff of Rhyann Jones and Salem Ward fended off the Mountain Hawks for the remainder of the game, combining to allow just three hits. Jones tossed 4.0 innings, striking out one batter and Ward threw 3.0 frames retiring one.
