Mens Tennis Travels to Campbell Then Hosts North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team goes on the road to face in-state foe Campbell at Nisbet Tennis Center on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. The Spartans return home to battle North Carolina A&T on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. UNCG Tennis Courts.

     SCOUTING THE SPARTANS          

  • The Spartans come into these matches 3-11 overall and 2-3 in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action.    

  • Most recently, the Spartans went 1-1 last week losing to SoCon rival ETSU, 5-2, on March 11, then taking down SoCon foe Wofford, 4-3, on March 15.  

  • Tymofiy Khrystyuk was named SoCon Player of the Week (March 17), which is the first of his career and first for the program since 2024.  

  • Khrystyuk is 7-3 in singles play so far this season with an unblemished 4-0 record in SoCon play.  

  • The Spartans defeated Belmont Abbey, 5-2, on Feb. 17, for the first home win of the season.     

  • The Spartans opened SoCon action 1-0 with a 5-2 victory over The Citadel on Feb. 14.     

  • Moskowitz, Khrystyuk and Hector Nissen all went 2-0 in the SoCon opener.      

  • UNCG fell in its home opener against North Carolina Central, 4-3, and Elon, 6-1 on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, respectively.       

  • Senior Gabelic captured his 100th career win against North Carolina Central on Feb. 7.         

  • The Spartans competed in four tournaments in the 2025 fall season.             

  • UNCG began the fall campaign by traveling to the Elon Invitational from Sept. 12-14.             

  • The doubles duo of Sammy Presser and Alan Trbonja led the squad with two doubles victories over the first two days, making it to the final round of the Invitational.              

  • UNCG then hosted the Spartan Fall Invitational from Sept. 19-20 at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro, North Carolina.              

  • As a team, the Spartans won 20 singles matches over the three-day event.              

  • UNCG took part in the Davidson Fall Invitational at Davidson Tennis Courts from Sept. 26-27. In the two-day event, Gabelic won all three matches to win his draw.             

  • At the ITA Carolina Regionals, Oct. 16-Oct. 19, the tandem of Gabelic and William Elmersmade it to the Round of 16 on Saturday before losing to South Carolina.            

  • At The SoCon Masters Qualifier, Moskowitz won his singles draw qualifying for the main tournament held in the spring.            

  • In the Wake Forest Invitational, senior Andrew Black won his singles draw, while the Spartans captured 15 victories across the three-day event in all competitions.               

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING CAMELS 

  • Campbell enters the match 7-8 this season with a 2-3 home record.  

  • Most recently, the Camels defeated Hofstra on March 20, 6-1, but lost to Coastal Carolina, 6-1, on March 22.    

  • Campbell boasts three players (Thomas Drapeau, Alex Fragasso and Aleksander Hudjec)with six singles wins this season. 

  • Hudjec and Drapeau are the Camels' best duo going 3-0 when matched up together.  

SCOUTING THE AGGIES 

  • North Carolina A&T comes to UNCG Tennis Courts with a 9-5 overall record and a three-game losing skid.  

  • The Aggies most recently fell to UNC Asheville, 5-2, on March 19.     

  • Said Akbarov is North Carolina A&T's most dangerous singles player, going 16-3 so far this season.  

  • Doubles are led by Lucas Coupu-Moision and Jindrich Brill who have a record of 12-4 this season as partners.

UNCG will welcome Davidson to UNCG Tennis Courts on March 28 at 2:00 p.m. then will travel up to Richmond, Virginia, to take on the Richmond Spiders on March 30 at 2:00 p.m.
